Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from her household, the actress was grew up by her mother godparents and grandmother. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to word associations. Ford was interested in the acting profession during her teens and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she wasn't a good choice for this school. Ford decided to apply instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her classmates. Ford did not finish her studies until 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV on the show Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Alongside her usual stage work, Tate was a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up humor that she started adding to her repertoire in 1996, quickly gained her admiration.
